In Romans chapter 12 Paul describes the qualities of a merciful person. After quickly listing ten characteristics of mercy in v. 9-13, he then turns attention for the rest of the chapter to how a merciful person deals with injustice and the temptation for revenge. Paul gives 8 verses to this one issue alone. Why? Because the hardest test of mercy is what a person does with the spirit of revenge after being mistreated.
