Paul says that the first coming of Jesus into the world was like the first light of the early morning dawn in the few moments before the sun rises. In those few minutes the sun has not yet appeared, but its soon arrival is signaled as the light begins to overcome the darkness. The second coming of Jesus will be like the sun suddenly appearing over the horizon and bringing its full light over the earth. Paul uses this picture to illustrate the urgency Christians must have for living lives of mercy in the world. We live in that time between the first coming and second coming of Jesus, and we must be undistracted in the mission of sharing the love of Jesus with as many people as possible so they will be drawn to Jesus and become part of His Kingdom.
